This is the board that I carry out for display every time I went to bazaar and market. A promotional board but more like an inspiration board to me. Some are the handmade things I bought from other talented booth vendors.

I don't know why I am super hard working this year. I have already booked almost all my weekends with bazaars dates and craft workshops and my schedule has been filled up until April. I guess this year my blog will not that lonely (I will try to blog more, with the new camera, I guess I will have more things to show you all)

A Ball of Yarn

I want to try on learning crocheting again. Learning by yourself following online tutorials are not as easy as I thought. I tried to learn crochet a year ago and I stop halfway, gave away the ball of yarns and hook to my friend (who did not learn it either). Somehow I got the urge and sudden determination to grasp this challenging (and addictive?) craft once again. So I get myself a new golden hook (wow!) and a ball of high quality yarn (RM16/ball!!). A high quality yarn is worth buying because the yarn will not become 'furry' and loosen and it is so much easier to handle compare to the cheap yarns I bought last time (hehe...I try to blame it on the yarn).

Look, I made some round thing! I am a step closer to amigurumi.

p/s : Chipmunk is made from a handglove. Isn't he lovely? He is always on my work table.

In conjunction with stamps week. So many stamps, first day cover, miniature sheets, postcards, old stamps. so many things to see!!!

Handmade Photography Postcard, anyone?

I have more than 1000 pictures in my hard disk (both laptop and the portable drive) but it never occur to me to print them out.

But recently the Postcrossing craze hits me again. Those that doesn't know, Postcrossing is a postcard exchange community website with a system that make sure everyone gets a card from everywhere in the world, from strangers who send beautiful postcards. The magic of snail mail is never lost with Postcrossing. I have been collecting postcards for many years ever since, somehow stopped (due to work, etc etc) and recently I recommended my friend to this site and then I began to start sending and receive postcards again. But then, I got bored of our dull Malaysia postcards (we only have the Yacine cards...) and I wonder, can I make my own cards?
Of course, with my crafty fingers, I attempted a few art cards before:

But ever since I gotten my hands on plastic toy and vintage cameras, I started to venture into the magical world of photography. Still an amateur, but then I wonder, what if I turn some of my favourite shots into postcards, slap on a stamp and send across the ocean? Will people like them as much as I do?

And then I stumbled on EOE.com, an online printing site. Awesome! The internet is really awesome, I can now print them without leaving my house and go search for photo printing shop. And EOE's price is very reasonable too, 30sen for 4R and 50sen for 5R. Hey, with the money today, we can't do much with a few sens. Store bought postcards are now priced at RM1! (used to be just 50sen....). I can't wait to register on their website and try out their service.

Monday and Tuesday (Malaysia's independence day) are holidays for me. yay...but there's plenty of work to do. There's a whole bunch of new fabby to be uploaded into the catalogue.

-process all Etsy orders (all the sudden, sales in Etsy has been growing tremendously, because of the coming holiday season?)
-prepare for the bazaar booth in Oct+Nov (must remember to put up poster in Blog!)

-a new Hobo bag. I love love love Hobo designed bag

What is Japanese Fabric?

What is Japanese fabric?
Japanese fabric design is so cute, whimsical, fairy tale-like, happy, colourful and famous for multi-colour printed cotton and linen fabric.
There is also kimono fabric, which is also very rich with colours and floral design but what I offer in my shop are craft fabric, with cuteness and zakka feeling.

What is the standard measurement for fabric?
Fabric is usually measured in yard for US metrics.
Malaysian is not very familiar with yard because we always use meter.
Actually 1 yard = 0.91meter.
A fat quarter is 1/4 yard. Refer the below chart for better understanding.

Where can I buy Japanese cotton and what is the standard price for Japanese cotton?
If you google Japanese cotton, you will find a lot of shops selling those beautiful fabric.
And the standard price is around : USD3-5 for one fat quarter.
You can try to find for more variety and price range at Etsy and Ebay.
You can also buy them from several Chinese website (from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong) but you will need a Chinese bank to deal with them and they usually do not accept Paypal payment. Unless you know a middle person who can order those fabric for you. A middle person is willing to do a transaction on your behalf by charging a commission fees of 10-20%

I accept local bank transfer and also Paypal (credit card).

Price for authentic Japanese cotton are more expensive than normal cotton fabric because of the cute and rare printed design on cotton and linen material.
I have check at our local largest fabric shop Kamdar and Nagoya, but they do have a very limited choice of Japanese fabric, price at minimum RM18/meter. Design are mainly floral, very similar to normal cotton fabric. I could not find any cute or 'zakka' design fabric.
If you are staying around Klang Valley, you can also stop by Craft World at SS2, they are selling a looooot of beautiful imported cotton and linen fabric, English, American and Japanese fabric. And their price starts from RM17 per fat quarter. Cut from bolt (what is bolt? refer pic below) is a minimum 0.5 yard.

In Malaysia, so far, I only found cute printed Japanese fabric at craft shop (Craft World) and other blogshop selling them. But unfortunately, many of the blogshops are Work At Home Moms (WAHMs) who does not play by the rules and sell them for overly cheap. Yayyy for the buyers but sad for other sellers who are trying to stay on the business ethic side by maintaining the standard price. But buyers be cautious, some might not be authentic Japanese fabric.

What is the difference between cotton and linen fabric?
As you can from the picture below, linen has rough grain and texture. It is also thicker (medium to heavyweight fabric). Linen is not suitable for making clothes but most suitable for making bag because of the sturdy thickness, it does not need to add another layer of inner lining fabric for protection. Other ideas on using linen fabric : purse, wallet, apron, table cloth, home decor craft, pencil case, laptop casing, tote, brooch, hairpin.

Printed Linen

100% cotton is very soft and lightweight fabric, suitable for almost all sorts of fabric craft. It is suitable for making clothes/dress too. But I would not recommend for making baju kurung, because in my opinion, for making baju kurung, silk+cotton fabric blend is still the best material because of more comfortable (not too hot while wearing).

I hope you know what you are selling and please don't spoil the market by simply labelling it as Japanese cotton. And if it's authentic Japanese cotton, please follow the standard international price and do not spoil the image and authenticity of Japanese cotton. Let's compete in a healthy market.

I'd been asking around, not many artist/crafter in Malaysia knows about Artist Trading Cards, so far, none. I am not sure why this fun art exchange activity is not popular among the artists and designers in Malaysia.

For those who is still wondering what is ATC, here is the definition I found from Wikipedia.

Artist Trading Cards (or ATCs) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards,^[1] or 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches (6cm X 9cm),^[2] small enough to fit inside standard card-collector pockets, sleeves or sheets.^[3] The ATC movement developed out of the mail art movement and has its origins in Switzerland.^[4] Cards are produced in various media, including dry media (pencils, pens, markers, etc), wet media (watercolor, acrylic paints, etc), paper media (in the form of collage, papercuts, found objects, etc). The cards are usually traded or exchanged rather than sold.

Recently my art nerves suddenly surfaces and I'd been digging back some of my ATCs. Most of them are dated in 2005. wow....5 years ago. Wow...I can't believe it! 5 years. and I'd not been creating anything (except the two bird illustrations and mixed media). Shame on me :( I'd been riding on the craft horses and forgotten about the smell of acrylic paints, sticky fingers with glues, messy table full with papers and ephemeras.
This year my one and only resolution is create more art.

Artist Trading Card - Restored

Recently I restored my infatuation with Artist Trading Card (ATC) by signing up a few ATC swap at Swap-Bot. What is ATC? Read it here : very thorough introduction to ATC.

Here are some of my previous ATC, made by me, for my own pleasure and collection. Back in my hometown, I have a few more dozens of ATC sent to me from other artist. I am looking for a way to store them, but they are slightly larger than business card size, so I can't keep them in business card file. Right now I just tuck them away in my craft drawer, some inside metal boxes, some became my bookmark.

I love vintage style collaging and mixed media.

Chinese pin-up girls. I collected alot of those ephemeras and images.

The tea ATC is my personal favourite, there is real Chinese tea leaves inside the handmade tea bag.

Do you notice that I use a lot of butterfly and wings images? They are my favourite.

And stack of ATC blanks and cardstock, some I cut out from cereal boxes and some sent to me from my swap friend.

So tonight I have an ATC challenge to complete, alphabet theme, D and E. Hmm...what to make?

Shiori Ningyo Bookmark

Finally, I finished making 25 (+1 extra) shiori ningyo bookmark for my customer. Shiori means big sister, ningyo means doll so it's a Japanese big sister doll bookmark, suitable to give to friends, students and small children to encourage them to read and do well in exam. All those papers are washi chiyogami paper imported from Japan. It is very difficult to find in Malaysia, even though we can find them in some craft shop but is very very expensive, selling for ~RM8 per piece of A4 size. Usually I got them from Etsy and Ebay, best place to look for rare craft material. Malaysia still lack of craft material and supplies.

So, I spent 5-6 hours making them, while watching drama (A Chip of the Old Block-super super funny TVB drama), my speed was slow by half if I were crafting while watching something on the laptop but that's how I like to work. :p

I really love washi paper. They are so beautiful.

Xmas Swap

More likely is New Year swap. Actually it is a Santa Xmas swap hosted by Agnes. My partners sent on time but those suprise swap packages were sent to my house in Ipoh. I couldn't go back to unwrap them until the New Year weekend. Hence, the late post on what I got from my swap partner..sorry. Anyway, I had fun, and I love everything I got, not the matter of price but the heart and the fun of joining Malaysian hosted swap.

I am waiting for Kin Fai from Melaka to reach KL and will go back Ipoh for this New Year weekend, so I'm taking some quick time to write an entry.

Finally, I'd bought a domain and successfully migrate my design blog KiireyBlog to wordpress. So, please check out www.kiireyblog.com, comment, subscribe, follow or bookmark the blog. I spent many many hours and late nights tweaking the codes and setting. It's kinda torture for someone clueless about web programming like me and I don't have much extra bucks for hiring a designer or programmer. With this blog, maybe I will blog less here (not that I write a lot anyway). But after I changed job(last month), I already have more time to spend on the things that I like to do so hopefully I could write more.

And here are some things that I sent out for Agnes's Xmas Swap, I got 2 swap partners and hope they like everything :) I even gave out my best seller fabric.

They already received my swaps, so I will show them off here. I will post what I received soon. Both packages from my swap partners are still at my Ipoh home, waiting for me to unwrap. Can't wait Can't wait. And they will be my New Year gifts instead of Xmas gifts.
Hmm...I am thinking of hosting a Pink theme swap for Valentine's Day. Anyone interested? Hmm...maybe not because CNY falls on V-day, everyone will be too busy. :/

It has been 2 months...

It has been 2 months since I last blogged :( Why am I so lazy and disorganize? What have I been doing in 2 months? Feels like I'd just threw 60 days away.

So here's a little update from me.

In the past 2 months:

I'd quit my new job and found a new one. 2 months? That was horribly fast. Well, you won't want to know what it's like.
Been to 2 bazaars, Arts for Grab and Joujou and Shugi. One went great and one not so great.
Pekmun, Deb and me at Arts for Grabs.
Addicted to Facebook games...silly idiot facebook games but I'm addicted. WTF is wrong with me? Wasting so many precious time on these silly interactive games and gaining nothing out of it.....love and hate it at the same time, I can't make up my mind.
Doing my best at my new job and the new job is doing it's best to wreck my little pathetic life. (ironicly, you can refer back to #1)
Loading up my fabric shop with lots of new imported fabric.

In the next 2 months:

I'm going to attend graphic design class for the next 9 months. Yea, part time course for working adult and it aint cheap too. But just a small price to pay for knowledge and ambition.
Start a journal. Inspired by Keri Smith from her book, How To Be An Explorer of The World. I haven't read this book but I'd already inspired by the book cover and the idea. Most probably will grab this from Amazon.
Go to downtown and take more pictures with my UWS, LC-A and Smena 8m. (total I have 5 cameras now, including 2 digital cams). Places in mind are Sekinchan, Kuala Selangor and...hmm..any other good suggestion. Will be a great source of inspiration for my journal and blog too.
Continue to work on Kiirey.
And not forgetting start a new job.
Blog more...yeah, right.

Another true dog story movie

that will definitely make me bawl like a baby. The trailer itself already made me cried (ok, I have an ultimate soft spot for true stories and dogs and this one is true dog story, so it's a real killer).

From Wikipedia :

In 1924, Hachikō was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life Hachikō saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting.
Hachikō was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. Eventually, Hachikō apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, Hachikō waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he did not see his friend among the commuters at the station.

The permanent fixture at the train station that was Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait.
This continued for 10 years, with Hachikō appearing only in the evening time, precisely when the train was due at the station.

Hachikō died on March 8, 1935. He was found on a street in Shibuya.^[1] His heart was infected with filarial worms and 3–4 yakitori sticks were found in his stomach.His stuffed and mounted remains are kept at the National Science Museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo.

Movie release date is August 2009 (USA). I hope it reaches Malaysia shores. But I didn't see any poster or trailer.:(

Ok, will update a little on what's up with me lately.

Joined new company as QA Engineer (yea, still an engineer, how dry....)
Creating a blogshop selling fabric to locals. I guess I should bring on the effort on this since there's a few request on my fabric after I blogged about them. Hold on yea, there are on their way, no easy putting up another website, after so many late nights on Kiirey, I'm kinda lazy lately.

I'm enjoying solitude

Right now I am enjoying solitary, with a mugful of rootbeer float (yay, now Oldtown has rootbeer float!!), listening to Zee Avi (she is amazing!!), and doing my online stuff (this include chatting with friends).

Loneliness is not scary but as long as I don't have to do this everyday. I missed talking and laughing (and gossiping and bitching :P).

Another small things that always cheer me up, anytime...

I don't have much to write about tonight, but just have this urge to write something. I will be leaving my job this coming Wednesday. And looking back, I had been in KL for more than a year. And I did enjoy my time here, a lot. KL has much to offer and everything is so different, the people and the life. There are also a lot of interesting events, stories and food too, which I enjoyed the most. People here are very different, more complicated, very socialable, and a city with not many mature adults but a lot of materialism. I met some very nice and interesting people too, mostly people from art/craft/design events. As for my job, I feel more and more numb with working, seems like losing the sparks with the first lover. I guess that's how everyone else feels too? But it feels like a zombie if I'm on a career without passion. As I am about to leave the current job, I am not feeling at all excited about the next new job.

and when I am about to finish this post, I drank half of the root beer...how to keep me accompany for another 2 hours? :/

Not really a chatty post tonight, maybe more tomorrow. Oh yeah, I should blog about lomo too. :)

Vilest villains

According to MSN entertainment, the vilest villains (who invokes the most fear at the mere mention of their name?) are

Darth Vader (but I think he has a sexy voice, not that scary)
The Joker (Totally agree, great tagline and horrifying make up skill, smeared lipstick and all, so yeah, he's pretty scary)
Hannibal Lecter (He's cool!! He has awesomeness!!)
The Terminator, T101 (his shaky shinny muscles did freak me out)
Lord Voldemort (Avada Kedavra and you're gone)

But the vilest villain in my list is Sylar (Zachary Quinto). He doesn't have heavy breathing voice behind a mask, he doesn't have smeared make ups, he has the Hannibal Lecter gentleman charm, he doesn't have muscled motionless face and he is not a gasp of smoke. He is a powerful hunk....opps, I mean he is the vilest villain. His power includes telekinesis, rapid cell regeneration (like Wolverine), shapeshifting (like Mystic), precognition, electric manipulation, you name it, he has it, or soon will have it. And oo, I forgot to mention, he doesn't have to wear tights with cape outfit.

ooo...those killer eyes. I could die melting looking at you.

Actually The Joker came as the close second of my favourite villain but he lost his marks on styling (hair and make ups...can do without any makeups). But I love his villain 'charisma' and his wicked sense of humour. Not many villain can be as evil and funny at the same time as him.

And this guy(thing) haunted my childhood. Too scary...and don't even dare to post his picture on my white lovely blog. Can any of you remember him? I heard there will be a remake of this movie. Creeeppppyyyyy...... (Dear Lord Voldemort, I think you have to learn from him in scaring kids)

This is my first time hosting a swap through my blog (all because I see how much fun Agnes had with her previous blog swap). I would like to bring to you, Whimsical Jar swap. I've seen those swap being going around for some time but the postage is a killer for oversea swap. Hope Malaysian are interested in doing this swap. :)

What is Whimsical Jar?
Find a jar (glass or plastic, preferably recycle jar but please wash properly), fill up the jar with lots of goodies, fill up until it's all full and nicely pack inside the jar. Then decorate the jar.

Craft handmade by you, craft supplies, ribbons, buttons, beads, lace, yarn, ribbons, fabric pieces, sweets, rubber stamps, magnets, brooch, accessories, jewelries, cute stationeries, miniatures, charms, anything!! That's the fun of whimsical jar, imagine pouring out all the little trinkets and look at them one by one, and not forgeting, taking photos of them. :P

The second craft fair that I went, was really really reallllllly fun!!!! I didn't really prepare much for this events, just made some extra plushies (shy bunny and onigiri) and I didn't even print out any name cards (I handmade them instead of sending to printing shop). I went with one intention, not really to sell stuff but to have fun and meet all the great artist/crafters. Looking at the number of vendors at this event, I know this would be a fun-filled event.

So here's our little booth (with no table...whyyy???)

And finally, we have Krispy Kreme. How is Krispy Kreme different from Big Apple and once very long queued J&Co? Krispy Kreme serves each and every customer that was queuing for our turn to make our purchase one fresh out from the oven original glazed donut. Now that's different!
And ho boy....it was really crispy!!

Ok, don't ask me to compare Krispy Kreme, J&Co and Big Apple. They all look and taste the same to me.
I'm not a big fans of sweet things.
But I loved the free donut. XD So extra point for Krispy Kreme.

For the love of craft

Finally, we found Multifilla (after the second try). Balakong is not very near to PJ, even though the worker there insisted that it's very near. From the website, you can see that this warehouse is selling allllll sorts of craft material, machines, trinkets and such. I spent almost an hour exploring the whole warehouse and found a lot of stuff that I can not get in normal craft shop (and my bf sleeping at the counter -_-).

1. Polyester Resin (RM26)
2. Resin hardener catalyst (RM4)
3. Release agent (RM18)
4. Small eye screw, 20 pcs (Rm15)
5. Speedball cutter, for rubber carving (RM59)
6. Hand-drill (RM20)

Woo-hoo!!!!! Now I can start experimenting on resin accessories and rubber-stamp carving. The price is good (cheaper than craft shops) and I'm never ever going to visit craft shops again. XD

1. A cheap, less than RM100 oven (for curing polymer clay)
2. Sewing machine, around RM500

I never had this kind ff feeling before....nervous, happy, excited, proud, overwhelmed, excited, very happy, satisfaction, and excited again and very happy again. Sounds like going crazy, but that's the feeling when reading my own name, first time ever on a magazine.

A month ago, it was out of the blue when Maybritt, the editor contacted me through email and she conducted a brief interview through email and after a month of anticipation and wondering if it's for real. I have been hogging the newstand everywhere since last week...and finally this morning, I bought the magazine and so here it is...it's for REAL!!!

First Try in Rubber Carving

Another new experiment on craft. Trying on rubber carving. It's fun, easy to craft but difficult to master. Geninne inspired me to carve. She's a very very talented stamp artist.

Ok, now look at what I did.... :p

First try, with Geninne's tutorial. Uneven lines, and smeared. :/

Second try. Own design. Still look weird and uneven stamping area. But outerline looks better this time. :p

They are actually wood carving tool. They are sharp but the carving is not precise enough. I think I need to get a proper (better) tool for rubber carving.

My first try on making onigiri softie from felt. It's for a swap on swap-bot and they were already on their way to my swap partner. Hope she loves them. I think they are very cute and perhaps I could sell them in my shop too.

The one with the odd shape is my first try without proper template.

Should I Change my Blog?

Ok, I registered a domain name which I am not using at the moment. At first, I thought up this name (together with my sis, Deb) for our online shop. But then, I put the whole shop construction on hold (yea, very frustrating..hosting, designing, shopping cart, content management..argghh) and so now, the domain name is floating around in the web.

The name --> www.farawaycolours.com

And after awhile, I thought the name is not so suitable for an international online shop, because of the spelling colours. Of course I would like to use the English English, colours but then, American English writes colors. So, it will be a difficult (confusing maybe?) domain name to remember. So, not a good choice and I would have to think of another good business name.

Any suggestion?
Please comment. I need need need idea. Thank you.

Bought some cards from an Etsy seller and have her sent to one of the admin who's organizing the charity together with Meals-on-Wheel that brings nutritious meals, handmade greeting cards and companionship to thousands of homebound elderly New Yorkers.

I was just 20 minutes into watching Meet Joe Black (yes, I am just watching it now....) and have to pause and blog about a quote from this movie.

I just do not understand when someone said love is not important. Why does ppl have to think it's best to find someone who can love you more than you love him/her? If that's the case, then have a dog or a cat, they will love you regardless how little attention or love you give them.

Ok, I do this every year. So might as well keep the tradition for 2009 too. Hope today is not too late for a resolution list, but well it's just 4th of Jan, just nice to start kicking everything anew. :)
For a moment I thought I was going to stop writing resolutions because it seems so kiddish and pointless as I may not even accomplish 20% of the written promises. For then again, after reading every blog that starts their first post in 2009 with a list of confident resolutions, I know resolutions are not just broken promises. They are friendly reminders, helping me to go through my life, keeping me on track and not to forget my aims, passions and promises I made to myself.

Buy and manage a functional storefront to sell indie crafts, creative accessories, clothes and everything special and beautiful. Ok, this is pretty important to me. And this also includes selling at Etsy. Marketing and promoting stuff, sourcing for new materials/products, networking...lots of work to do.
To love my full time job (duh...). Ok, sounds like something impossible but I need this to be happier. So either I try to love my current job or find a job that I will love. If #1 is successful, then #2 will be cheering out loud. Hehe.
Be healthy. Eat healthy, live healthy and think healthy. (meaning...more exercise? argh, ok I will walk more)
To have a strong and lovely relationship. (just keep doing what I have been doing all this time :D )
Debt free by March 2009. And will not be using credit card anymore. I got this new debit card that is super great! And I can withdraw my Paypal funds to this debit card too, how awesome can that be? XD
Read more books on the shelf before stacking on new ones.
Learn screen printing and book binding. (yes!)
Buy a new camera for better photoshoot. (when #5 is accomplished)

Ok....this is what I am keeping myself busy with lately:

I am creating my own ad space and also hosting ad space in my blog for other small business owner. A way to earn small bucks and also to promote my lil business.
Co-host Etsy Malaysia Local Team
So many things to do....I am helping Huey to host this local team where we Etsian in Msia get together and have fun. I couldn't imagine how much work I have to do, post in the blog (ok, I am a lazy blogger, how am I suppose to keep up with that?), maintain the Flickr group, and also to promote the team and invite more ppl in.
Going Pro on Flickr
Paying $24.95 a year to host unlimited pictures and get on the track of the Flickr community isn't a bad idea after all. I am starting to have fun organizing my pictures, commenting on other ppl's pictures, have ppl comment on mine, joining unlimited groups...wooo...just too much fun.
Setting up my webstore.
Not going to rely too much on Etsy, because they are only limited to handmade and handmade only. And buyers has to register to Etsy which is kinda 'leceh'

Ok, finally, my clay dolls grew some hair. They have been lying naked for a few weeks (months) behind my lap top and some of them cracked due to the heat generated from my lap top.

Ok, tomorrow will gloss my little dolls. And then wait another day for them to dry and shine. Then only I can make them some clothes. Hish...so much work.

Opened a second shop for selling supplies and seems like it's doing much much better than selling my handmade crafts. Hey, not that my craft aint any good but supplies are always easier to sell. More sales mean less personal time. I have to spend hours packing my goods to ship. Label them nicely, tape them securely and double check. Now I have to drop by the post office almost every week, with 4-5 large package to mail out. Sometimes lunch hour break is not enough for me, I have to go to the PO early in the morning (and late to work).

With 247356 sellers on Etsy, I have to swim very hard out from the crowd and make myself noticeable. Marketing is really the hardest part. I spent more time in marketing than I spent on crafting. BTW, just created myspace, please add me if you like my crafts and arts :) www.myspace.com/kiiess
And there's so much more networking site such as flickr, facebook, friendster, indiepublic, Etsy forum, etc...how can I manage them all? I can't dedicate so much time to this when I have a full time job which sometimes I have to end up working until 9-10pm.

But I am looking seriously into making my craft business full time. Hey, it's not unrealistic ok. I read these articles all the time to inspire and motivate myself that one day, I can really quit my day job. :D

But there is so much more to learn and do:
-Photoshop (to edit my pictures, add effects and I am looking forward in selling digital images too)
-Dreamweaver (to create my own website, I can't depend on Etsy all the time)
-An effective way (and cost saving too) to withdraw my money from Paypal
-More art and craft techniques
-More research
-More more more time!!!!

A blog a day keeps the misery away.

Seeing 3 comments on my last post after I went MIA for 2 months from blogasphere, really makes me very happy and touched. Thank you very much!!

KL life is fun. All my best friends are there (except poor Yokie in Penang). Work sometimes finishes quite late, there's one time I had to work until 10.30pm (and it's a Friday!!) and then went back into the plant the next day (it's Saturday lorrr!!!). No biggie because some other colleagues experienced working till 3-4am. But most of the time it will be 7pm and I will be at home, lappie switched on, preparing my dinner and then will finish my dinner over some drama or series. After that, will be Poupee time while chatting with my friends. And Etsying too. I never go out after work on any weekday. I can say, I'm a very indoor person. :D But the worst thing is, when you don't have anyone to go home to. It's a very horrible feeling when every single day I go home to an empty house (I have a housemate which I don't talk much to and we communicate through MSN). Well, at least I still have my hamsters to go home to. :)

Lately, I've not been crafting much. But trying my hands on a lots of other crafts and art. Will blog about this later.

Ok, you guys know it has been my bad habit to blog once in a month or maybe longer. But currently, I'm really not in the mood to blog or craft or do anything. July and August were not a good month for me and my friends. As we grow older and older, the path of life seems harder and harder to walk through.

Three of my best friends ended their relationship with their bfs. And I'm not doing so well with mine. Ai...sad things don't want to talk anymore.

I am keeping myself busy with crafting and going out with my friends. We keep each other company. We give each other support. I am really happy to have them. Just like the four women in Sex and The City.

Ok, and now I went missing for one month. That's my style, blog one month, don't blog one month. haha...style of a lazy blogger.

Don't have much to blog about actually...maybe load some pictures later in the day. Went for a weekend shopping spree with Shelley and we ended up buying so many craft materials and book. And I finally got my sewing machine. It's a small cute electrical sewing machine. XD And I can't wait to make stuff with it. ~lalala~

More Inchies To Go

Finally I finished 150 pieces of little art (in 1"). Phew. There's 2 orders of custom inchies came in together from Etsy. And suddenly I'd become an inchies making machine. My workshop table was scattered with scraps, fibers, glitter, paint, words and glue.

Couldn't snap the first 100 inchies I made for customer A. Below are the 50 inchies I made for customer B who wanted them all in pink shade. One concentrated color is always difficult to make. I can still vividly remember how I struggled to complete my order for 100 inchies in black and white.

A trip to one of my best friend's wedding inspire me to write something about marriage. Something for everyone to ponder about.

Do you marry someone because you think:
A. He is a good man/woman. A total husband/wife material
B. It's about time to settle down. You had enough of fun already
C. Both A and B. Everybody has to end up in marriage whatsoever. It's just the right thing to do at the right time(refer to answer B) and you're with the right man/woman (refer to answer A).

I hope at this point, someone will be looking for another option D. You are truly, madly, crazily in love with this man/woman. Someone might disagree, saying love can't buy you a loaf of bread. But love can sail your boat a long longgggg way, through calm or turbulent sea. Bread? We can just finish it in a second and hungry for more.

While having dinner with my girlfriends, a saying/quote was brought up. One of my gf said, 'It is better to marry a guy who loves you more than you love him'. All my other gfs agreed. But I beg to differ. I said, 'Have to same same love la...' and she shaped her fingers into a 'L' shape....indicating I'm lame. -_- Even I'm a girl, I find it a bit selfish to think this way. Yes, I agree, everyone wants to play safe, but is finding someone that loves you more than you love him is the safest way, or the wisest way to a happy marriage?

I, too, saw the ugly side of marriage from my colleagues and friends. Somehow, somewhere, along the road, they met with someone better. Why so? Because the husband/wife is just good...but eventually not good enough. So there can always be someone better. Always, for sure. My theory is, marry someone you think is your better half. Someone you think is the best, at least in your own eyes, someone you adore, you worship, you crazily in love with. This apply to guys too. Don't you go marry someone just because you think she's a good cook, raise you good kids and could make your family photo looks cosy and warm. It will be the same like hiring someone to do or help you do those chores, right. You also have to adore, worship and crazily in love with this person.

If we think 'It is better to marry a guy who loves you more than you love him', it's like, fuh...good, we don't have to labour so much love. The lesser love I contribute, the safer and happier I am? Don't tell me, everyone is agreeing and applying this theory?? Ok, maybe you were badly hurt in a relationship before, so you wanted to play safe and granted this thought?? Please don't. Please continue to believe true love still exist.

My rule of thumb is simple, love like how you want to be loved in return. Yes, I will.......when I found my better half.

I hope I'm not living in fantasy realm and what I'm believing is not myth.

My First Handphone Pouch...Handmade by me!!

Bought so many fabrics, must make use of them. Ok, here's something I want to change/buy long time ago. My handphone drawstring pouch. But I always couldn't find a pouch that I like in the market. All are too commercial and similar.

Ok, I tried to make my own handmade pouchie. I have no idea how to and where to start. No sewing experience whatsoever. No sewing machine (my hands are my machine). So I took the rough measurement from my old pouchie and choose one of my favourite fabric.

Cutting the fabric hurts so much. X_X

Beautiful Fabric

I have a thing with fabric lately. I couldn't stop buying craft books, felt and beautiful fabrics. And I couldn't stop playing with those beautiful fabric.

Bought some beautiful Japanese ZAKKA fabric from Mwendas. Couldn't find it anywhere in KL so I have to get them online. Expensive nehhhhh. But they are simply beautiful.

And together in the mail was a package from Christinas. A package fully stuffed with beautiful fabric scraps. And just last night, I un-tie the bundle and look at the scraps one by one. The scraps are not small pieces, some are slightly larger than a fat quarter. Aaaa....love them so much, especially the small kimono girls red fabric.

There are 30 beautiful fabric scraps!!

I spent some time last night arranging my felt squares in color order. Fun! Remember when we're kids and sometimes like to arrange our color pencils nicely?

New Stuff

So, I have finally got the grip of living hell in KL and so at last I found back my craft mood, very much overwhelming indeed. Here's what I made when I'm home (more like room) alone in KL...

Heart with a patch brooch, veggie cuties, breakfast cuties (pancake and egg are brooches too). I haven't decide what to do with the veggie cuties and they took hours to make. >_<)

Pawprints!!! My own creation too. I enjoy making them soooo much and will make more.
The top three are pin brooches and below two are handphone charms/keycharms.

And one big family (and increasing day by day).

Notice the mini donuts too? Darn difficult to make because they were soooo small, like only 1.5" in diameter.

Yahoogroup NNC is going to set up a stall at The Curve flea market and I'm going to throw this to the market. I may not earn as much as from Etsy but the idea of selling in my own local bazaar is sooooo fun. Ok, now I need to cut and stitch faster. Now, I need at least 1 hour to cut and stitch the simple pawprints. If something like the peapods, it took hours!! >_<

Well, I guess living alone outside is not as difficult as it seems when everynight I have my crafting to and also not forgeting my Grey's Anatomy and Prison Break. Ok, now I know why I am stitching so slow.

Kawaii is so out now. I just found out the latest trend….well, perhaps not that latest, but it’s something new in the sense of fashion and style. Zakka! I’m not really sure what is zakka actually, but here’s the definition from Wikipedia.

Zakka (from the Japanese 'zak-ka'（雑貨）or 'many things') is a fashion and
design phenomenon that has spread from Japan throughout Asia. The term
refers to everything and anything that improves your home, life and outlook. It
is often based on household items from the West that are regarded as kitsch in
their countries of origin. But can also be japanese goods from mainly
fifties, sixties and seventies. In Japan there are also so called asian
zakka stores, that usually refers to Southeast Asia. The interest in Nordic
design or Scandinavian design, both contemporary and past, is also part of
this zakka movement. Zakka can also be contemporary handicraft.
Zakka has also been described as "the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and
mundane". The zakka boom could be recognized as merely another in a series of
consumer fads, but it also touches issues of self-expression and spirituality.
Cute, corny and kitschy is not enough. To qualify as a zakka, a product must be

But from what I understand, Zakka is something ordinary but yet outstanding and beautiful. Kawaii but not as loud and proud. Kawaii in a humble way. Sort of like low-profile beauty.

Well, one thing I like about my job is that I can blog at this hour. Muahahaha.....My new job allows me to online. Such bliss!

Ok, nothing much to blah in the morning, other than I killed another small roach this morning. Will be going back to Ipoh again this week. Yeah, has been going back to hometown quite frequently. WTH, KL-Ipoh is so near. Since I am going back by car this time (with Kin Fai), I will bring down more of my stuff, especially crafting tools. I just neeeed to get back the crafting mood.

Talking about crafting, when I was looking for art and crafts workshop around my area, I stumbled upon NeedlesNCrafts (NNC). NNC is a yahoogroup of great Malaysia crafters. I am totally impress that we Malaysian, have our small group of artisans. Looks like arts and crafts in the country is still not dead yet. I am currently pending for membership. Can’t wait to join this group and am looking forward to some craft fairs, craft workshop, gathering, some activities among fellow Malaysians. Now I don’t have to swap craft with only foreigners which drain my salary for postage.

Ok, need to go back to work. Lalala…..

Cockroach Terror

I am trying to cope wioth my new life in the big noisy urban city. But living alone is not fun at all. Especially the house I live in is infested with the horrible horrible horrible dreadful evil of evil insect, the big fat black cockroach. >_<

A few days ago I already had one in my room, which I had to run out dancing from my room to seek help from my heroic housemate. Embarassing betul! My second encounter with the nasty roach was even worst nightmare. I bumped into the second roach unexpectedly in the bathroom and worst still, there was no one to answer to my help. This nasty thing has more superpower than the one in my room previously. This one can fly!!!!!!!!!! The house has nothing but an empty can of Sheltox spray. I stood outside the bathroom planning a strategy to win this fight. I cannot let this nasty little black thing spoil my good sleep. I did came across the slipper stragery but I dare not kill the thing with a short distant blow. Suddenly, I remembered how my grandma killed a snake using hot boiling water. So I boiled some water and splashed at the cockroach but I think it did not kill it. But it felt into my bathroom mug (with my toothbrush and stuff in the mug....ewwwww). No choice, I had to drive all the way out in the middle of night (12.04am to be exact) to 7-Eleven to get a can of insect spray and some naftalene balls. When I get back to the bathroom, the nasty thing is still there waiting to challenge me. And with the spraying strategy, no insect can outsmart that.

I am an animal lover, but very sorry...I am an insect hater.

And I scattered the naftalene balls all around the house and especially my room. Housemate Daren, sorry, has to kill all your 'siew keung'. Next time, get hamsters. I am all for hamsters.

On a more happy note, catch up with Fong today at The Curve and I finally had a chance to eat the Shabu Shabu which I'd always wanted to try but due to some weird excuses, Kin Fai always avoided it.

Another Page of My Life

Well, I guess this yet another page in chapter three of my life (chapter one being teenager, chapter two being uni students and chapter three being a working adult). After working for 4 years in Ipoh, having the good life living with parents, slow and steady Ipoh life, close relationship and good rapport with Ipoh colleagues, now I moved on to the second page of my third life chapter, which is living my life alone as a working adult. I know this is nothing new for most of you guys out there, but somehow is a small challenge for me, seeing that I am so over-pampered with my parent's love. But hey, as an only child, I get pamper for my whole life (I'm spoilt, yea I'm spoilt).

Today is third day living alone in KL, the big mean city. Nothing much to tell here, just that new room, new job/company, new bed, new laptop, new colleagues (saw some old faces, most familiar are chan mali chan and Eng Chuan) and now I am waiting for my new car. woohoo....

I still couldn't really adapt with the new life. Why couldn't adapt? First of all, I am kinda lazy. Most of my clothes are still in the luggage. Secondly, craft stuff still nicely pack in the craft box. No craft mood yet. Third, I am going back home this weekend. hahahaha....But I am making the first attempt to adapt by making my first blog post in my new room, with new lappie. Not too bad huh....I did not forget completely bout my blog lar....still will update wannnnn.

As for the HK pic, maybe later...but soon. Since I have plenty of time now.

Black and White Inchies Challenge

Finally I am done with 100 black and white inchies challenge and sold it off Etsy. Making inchies in colour is fun and easy, but black and white is a challenge because I can not find many material in the shade of black, white, gray and silver. And after one week, finally I finished this task. Am very very satisfy with the outcome.

Preparing the background is fun and easy. Decorating the inchies takes a lot of creativity and patience.

Here's all the beauties and now they are on the way to the proud owner who appreciates art in inches.

Selling at Etsy

It has been 10 days since my last successful sales at Etsy. I used to sell at least 2-3 items during the weekend and up until now, there's 30 successful sales. But business has been stagnant for the past week and I think I need to work harder in maintaining the sales.

Here's some of the things I will have to do, for promotion, for the love of craft, for business, for fun and whatsoever (I got some of the great tips from The Tiny Fig).

Blogging
Yes, I need to maintain a consistent update of my art-venture blog in order to showcase my craft and art work and also to promote my Etsy shop. And many also read other craftster's blog, comment their work, link them to my blog and in that way, my network will broaden.
A new avatar
Hmm...so I need to find or design a new and recognizable avatar for my brandname, Kiiss.
Forum
Be more chatty. Give useful opinions and thoughts. Exposure!
Other affiliates
Flickr, many related group to join, comments on other ppl's art and crafts. Look for more ideas and inspiration. Chat and comment. Build network. But I don't know about Facebook, but since it's such a hip now, perhaps worth a try.
Other craft websites

But I bought a really cool sushi template from an Etsy user and I learn a lot of basic techniques from useful tutorial. I'm thinking of buying more tutorials from her but she seems to have increased the price of her tutorial. :(

Hokie....so no one will be updating their blog regularly nowadays because it is the Lunar New Year celebration all over the globe. Busy busy...collecting ang pows, gambling, going out with family and friends.

And.....today is the fifth day of Lunar New Year celebration, lalala and I am getting a little exhausted of the late night hang out with my friends and also at Kin Fai's friend's place. Last night I slept at 3.30am and woke up at 11.00am(almost everyday I slept at 3am) and now blogging about nothing. Haha.

Kin Fai went back to KL today. He was here for 7 days (one whole week!!) but I couldn't get to see him that often. I was kinda pissed off because his friends got to see him more. >_< But I guess every year's CNY is deem to be like this. But I couldn't stop myself from complaining. But can't blame me, I haven't see him in 3 weeks!! Long distance relationship is so difficult. Arrgghhh....*sigh*

Will be starting work tomorrow. I know there's a lot of ppl already started work today. I really don't feel like going to work at all, I know everyone is the same....but it's such a dreadful feeling, I know I am avoiding facing shits at work. But the shits are just too horrible. Can't write much about work here because a lot of my colleagues and even my bosses knew about my blog (is it a good thing?). It has been almost 3 years working with them and I grew to love the ppl and environment but somehow.....I don't know, is 3 years too long already? Some ppl has been working for more than 10 years in the same company. Not a pleasant CNY I would say, because I was being bother by work. Ok, so I know there's work pressure and pleasure. I am not trying to complain, in fact, I did enjoy (love??) my work a lot. And now trying to establish my part time job as an artisan.

Ok, I am still working hard on my Etsy shop. There's so many things I wanted to make and sell. Felt sushis, paper dolls, tags, inchies (already done!! and looking pretty but nobody is buying), more felt food....maybe even cards. Now trying to make some felt sushi food. For more arts and craft-venture, please tune to this blog. Since I got hooked on with Etsy, life has been busy and it adds another meaning to my life. This is not kids play, you know. I am putting my love and life into this art thing. Life without a passion for something is definitely dull and monotonous. So peeps, find your passion if you haven't got one yet.

Ok, so I left my blog in the cold again. Some readers has been asking me, what are you doing???? Why no blog??? Actually I'm really slacking off in blogging and seldom read my friend's blog as well. SORRYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

Okok, lately, this is what I'm doing most of the time. My Etsy Shop. Hahaha. At last I have my own shop. And have been making a little money from it. I'm trying to make more handcraft item for sales and so, maintaining the shop and crafting is what I'm keeping my hands busy now. I tried to introduce the idea of e-commerce to my friends, e-Bay, Laundromatic and Etsy. Some of them are interested with the idea...but, just interested with the idea and not interested in actually doing it. So well, I'm having my fun, earning humble moolah and it's much more fun than doing MLM or selling insurance.

Oo...by the way, I have another blog to keep track of my arts and crafts adventure. The passion of crafting is what keep me sane from all the stupid work stress(but I'm not so easily get stressed from work....I'm almost stress-free) and also kills the boredom and loneliness of being in the long distance relationship.

Talking about long distance relationship. Yea, we are still strong. And a lot of ppl are surprise that we're still together. LDR is not as difficult to maintain as I thought. Maybe success rate will be like 30% (or maybe 20%...erm maybe 10%, there's no statistical support, ok) but it's not like impossible.

I'm not creating the best craft yet but I'm practicing more and more. Actually slacked off a bit lately due to the holiday seasons. Bought a whole bunch of felt material but haven't start with anything yet although I'm so full with ideas and inspiration now (too much surfing on the internet, saw too many good stuff).

Here's what I made:

The sushis I made from the cane sushi tutorial.

Not cut properly, that's why with the diferent size. hehe. But I was pretty satisfy with my first clay cane. I was a bit worry during the cane reducing process....which I thought I distorted the cane and screwed up....but then it turned out to be quite ok. I could not slice the cane properly because the rice seems to look distorted after the first two slice but I was clever to chill it overnight in the fridge. On the next day, I have my miniature sushi roll. Stupid old camera was not able to capture micro-view >_< but the rice looks really cute. I loveeeee translucent clay. ^_^

Singapore Trip

A very late entry and I don't even remember when was the exact date of this trip. Somewhere in late of October. And since I'm home alone at Kin Fai's house with nothing much to do except online and chatting, so I might as well complete writing this abandoned entry. Erm, why home alone? Because I was on holiday and he still have to work, so I was being left home alone for 8 hours!!!!!! How fun is that?

But it's not too bad, I'm more an indoor person (unlike Kin Fai), so 8 hours home alone is not much problem as long as I have the internet connection, I am still very much connected to the outside world. And I really enjoy (syiok!) using his laptop.

Okok, back to the Singapore trip. Was there for a week long for company training purposes.

Ok, I'll reveal a bit on the things I do during the training here. All machinery and equipment. How boring. I don't know why I ended up doing this kinda of work. I'm an artist!!!! Should be holding brushes creating masterpiece not holding Allen key and assembly spare parts. Arrgghh!!!

Here's the hotel I'm staying. Parkroyal Hotel.

SGD190++ per room and it's not even a 4 star rated hotel. And no breakfast provided. The other 5 colleagues I went to Singapore with were kinda excited with the hotel rooms...mainly because 4 of them are technicians and seldom get to stay in posh hotels (this is not even consider posh). And 4 of them went totally hype when they saw the bath tub. And since all were guys, so I had the room all to myself. Another guy(engineer) suggested to share room with me but I blatantly rejected him.

I had to lead 4 of the technicians for a city tour. The useless engineer left us on the very first day and joined his own Singapore friends. I had a friend working in Singapore offered to show me a bit of the island upon my arrival but I have to reluctantly reject him because I had to stay with the 4 poor lost lambs. It's also my first trip to Singapore, so I'm pretty lost myself too. And the 4 little lambs did not have much useful suggestion so I decided to take the Hippo city tour, a 24 hours city tour guide for just SGD24. Not too bad for us first timer. And for the first time of the day, I was cheered up seeing that the bus I was about to board is pink! hehe.

And some of the not very attractive technicians. I'm a bit hesitated to put their pictures in my blog but just that you all will know why I'm not enjoying the trip. LOL.

The Hippo bus also took us to Sentosa Island for the Song of The Sea show. Sort of like laser+3D+musical fountain show.

And also went to Bugis Street, bazaar type of shopping.

I usually went crazy with bazaars, where I could find treasuries and good bargains but it doesn't seem to apply here in Bugis Street. Everything was so expensive (because of the currency rate) and especially after the trip to Bali and Chiang Mai, this so call Bazaar of Singapore I rated 1 out of 10. Even our own Jonker Street in Melaka and Petaling Street in KL are far more better. And I didn't even buy a single magnet or postcards. But grabbed a whole bunch of free cards from their advertisement racks. HAHAHA. Singapore ZoCards (freecards) rocks!

And on the third day, SK took me out for dinner and show me a bit of the more beautiful side of Singapore, which is Clarke Quay. He also brought me to Orchard Road for some really tasty Shanghai Siew Long Bau.

Everytime when I bite, I have to be very careful so that the juice inside the dumpling will not get squash out from my mouth, which will look awful if it did.

Just strolled along the riverside and clubbing area. Quite crowded and it's a Wednesday. I wonder how's the weekend? Anyway, thanks SK for the dinner and the time for showing me around. Will try not to virtual slap you so often...haha (try only lar).

And on the last night in Singapore, I had another date with my friend, Chun Yng. And thanks to those great friends, they brought me to eat the better food in Spore. This time, I went to Vivo City, the largest and hippiest shopping mall in Singapore. Yes, really beautiful mall. But too bad that after we finished our dinner (because of too much talking... hehe), the mall was already closing and we did not really walk alot.

The restaurant that Chun Yng brought me to were very 'Hong Kong'ish and the name is oso very cheeky..Hak Seh Wooi, meaning brothers, also meaning triad brothers.

I really like the three eggs fried rice (am a big fans of century egg). And it's Chun Yng's fingers.

Overall the food there was really good, one of the best meal I had in the whole week stay in Singapore. Yes, generally Singapore food is not that good and if you want to eat good food you have to try one of those kinda posh restaurants in big mall. And yes, of course, much much more expensive too. And also people tend to flock to Kim Gary too....just like us Malaysian.

After the sumptuous dinner we had a nice walk and chat at vivo city's rooftop which spot the night best view.....just opposite Sentosa Island. But with construction going on at Sentosa Island (they are building the casino, you know....), the island view is not that beautiful.

We went to Jewel Box, a place at hilltop, not very high but a good spot for night view. We also took the late night cable car ride to and fro to Sentosa Island (not stopping at the island though).

I really miss home (Malaysia) especially our local food. Even though Singapore is just our neighbouring country but their street food/hawker food is not even near our standards. And as usual, I gobbled down a plate of Nasi Lemak once I set my food back to Malaysia ground. But it was Johor's nasi lemak and not that good...but don't care laaaa, emotionally and spiritually satisfied. Haha.

This is the big pau I had at Singapore. Not BIG at all!! What the....*tut tut*....

And to contradict my sentence above about being left home alone (and no fun), actually I was only home alone for 4 hours and by 1pm Deb came to find me for lunch cum shopping at Uptown Damansara and I got myself a new dress for Xmas celebration. Yay!! Which end up I did not finish writing the blog at Kin Fai's house but 4 days later, at my own house. I just don't know why this entry took forever to finish.

The Cane Artist

Found something fascinating again. This world is full of brilliant artist and I am tire of discovering these interesting art/craft hunt. And lately I just discover the magic of polymer cane, also known as millefiori cane. I totally fell in love with this millefiori beads from an Israel cane artist.

I made my first sushi cane from this tutorial. Really cute outcome although the size of each sushi roll seems very uneven. Will upload the pictures soon. Not very difficult to make but I thought I screw up a little at first because the end of my cane looks distorted but then after chilling it overnight in the fridge, it's easier to slice (really uneven, poor judgement skills) and I have my small cute sushi roll. Will show the picture tomorrow.

After googling about millefiori, I found that the world wide web provides a lot of interesting info and free tutorial. But will need to practise a lot and might as well have to waste a lot of clay during experiments. And clay are a bit too expensive over here (RM9 for a small block of Sculpey clay) and not much claying tools (can't even buy the Translucent Liquid Clay). But still, crafting is still not the most expensive hobby eh?

Holiday Mode

Holiday season is hitting the shore and everyone slump into the holiday mode. Definition of holiday mode : Not feeling like working, everyone is leaving work on time, everyone is slacking off, happy, laughing, talking nonsense. And that's how it is at my work place. 11 more days to the brand new year. Everyone is eager and happy like school kids.

Is it just me? I feel that December is always the shortest month (not February).

2007 is not the happiest year for me but also not the most unfortunate. I believe no one can have a 365 days of happiness. Life if always full of laughters and tears. I guess that's what that colours our life. Even we were helplessly drown by some unhappy events but why dwell in the gloom? If fate is not in our hands but emotions are. Being happy is definitely within our control.

Ok, the old ritual every year end, the new year resolution. Yayy....

2008 Resolution

To travel to another 2 new places (local or other countries)
To have my own Etsy store. My first online store. Must make this happen.
To own a pink laptop
To go on another year with Kin Fai. I don't believe the 2 year itch.
To find a new job and move to KL (not because I don't like my current job but need to earn more)
To own a new car
Work out more, try to keep a healthy lifestyle. Do yoga or gym or whatever. (seriously!)
Save moneyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At first I wanted to write up to 10 resolutions, but considering I had a long list last year but not able to complete 50% of it, so better write a short and easy to achieve resolution. Lets review my old list (ashame ashame).

Not to spend so much in boutiques. Do not buy more than 2 piece of clothing every month and this includes socks, hair accessories and whatsoever. (err....maybe 3 lar....er...WTF!! Not more than 2!!!)

Read all the books that I bought. They are not decoration for my shelf. Read at least one book each month.

Promote the anti-animal cruelty campaigne. There are lots more thing that I could do, like sign petition, donation, do volunteery work.

Try manicure and pedicure. This is a MUST MUST MUST try thing in 2007. I'm dying for the French Manicure. I want my hands look like a princess's hands. ^__^

Watched The Warlords last weekend. I really don't know how to comment on this movie. Just that I never see Jet Li holding such a hamsap character, lusting over his blood brother's wife in the mist of war. Well, that's what makes you a true hero I guess. His previous righteous and heroic characters were all too fake, I guess. Hah...
Anyway, this movie has top class cinematographic and direction but China movies are never my cup of tea....I mean, my bag of popcorn.

Sorry for not blogging more often lately. Have been getting my hands busy with arts and crafts. Don't know what hits me and I'm back to the crafting craze again. I remember the last time I hold the brush was in 1998, when there's still art classes in our education syllabus. Wish I had learn more about arts and crafts during the young and carefree time. And I was among the few that enjoyed art class so much.

Crafting really could kill the boredom, loneliness and stress in me. Am so happy to see all my cute creation. ^_^

Tracy Goh's Washi Ningyo's Kit

Received my Washi Ningyo kit from Tracy Goh. She made a really comprehensive kit for making washi ningyo and it even comes with a nicely printed tutorial booklet. I'm soooo excited to try my hand on making my first washi ningyo. I can make 4 cute ningyo from this kit.

My first washi ningyo and I want to call her Midori.

It was so much fun making the ningyo. Although a bit tedious and meticulous with the small details but it was so fun especially when styling the hair. It took me 2 hours to finish my Midori. Need more practice >_<

Bought my first set of acrylic paint.

Every artist should get a set. I got myself a set of 12 basic colours. I don't know whether I will need so many colours or not but looking at the colour tubes lining before my eyes, it already makes me very happy.

I'm getting impatient and greedy. I wanted to learn and make so many things.

Home Alone

I'd been left home alone for two days. My parents and aunt went to my uncle's wake. Am a bit uneasy with the silence. Even Nici is gloomy with the quiet house. Kin Fai suppose to come back this weekend but he was being held back by his work. Sigh....What a boring weekend.

I'd been surfing the net for almost the whole day, researching on more crafting that amuse me. Found some really talented crafters:
Powa*Powa* - Japanese site. Luckily Google translates this page for me. A lot of cute felt and polymer crafting. Really really interesting and inspires me alot.
Dieva's Craft Store - Indenesia Washi crafter. I can understand a bit of Bahasa Indonesia, so this is not much a problem. But she did not offer any free or online tutorial and all her classes are in Indonesia. But great ideas for washi paper art.
Patricia Rose - A very very talented fantasy doll crafter. I was totally awed with all her sculpture. Doll sculpting is very very tedious but they can sell for a very good price in ebay. Being a crafter/artist, you can actually become rich....if you are really good.

I decided to start with something simpler and not that expensive. I paid another visit to Craft Workshop to buy some felt.

But end up spending RM60.90 on craft supplies.
- 5 pieces of felt (RM3 each)
- All purpose glue (RM15)
- Pebeo metal touch paint writer (RM11)
- 60 Crystal brads (RM19.90)

This hobby ain't cheap. I know I bought a lot of unnecessary things but everything is sooooo tempting and I wanted to try everything.

Bought a felt crafting book from Popular.

Well, at least buying a book is cheaper than signing up for classes. I can learn and experiment this on my own. Felting doesn't seem too difficult. But the book were all written in Chinese....tried so hard to understand the tutorials, some tutorial is a rather difficult and I need some felting needles. Perhaps I can try to find some in Yik Foong complex.

Since I don't have enough resource to start any serious felt project, I tried and practiced my sewing skills on some of the scrap felt from my previous felt cake project. I tried sewing some of the different type of stitches from the book, and I learnt French knot and how to stitch really cute eyes.

I should give a kawaii name to my creation. Kin Fai keep saying cookie monster but it's too cute to be a monster.

I just realized that felts are realllllly expensive. RM3.00 per piece and not any larger than A4 paper. If I want to play felt, I must source for cheaper material. eBay, here I come.
